We're proud to be PETA approved and give 20% of all profits to environmental & animal nonprofits.

Kinds of Grace creates vegan purses, handbags and wallets that are more ethical and sustainable than leather bags. Our faux leather bags aren’t made from the skins of animals, a choice we made so that we could create animal cruelty-free, more eco-friendly designs. We love animals, and the planet we all share, so 20% of our profits support charities which protect both.

A faux leather, or ‘artificial leather’, which is really just a cruelty-free leather made from a synthetic material. ‘PU’ stands for polyurethane, which is the base ingredient of the material. PU is synthetic, so it is not biodegradable. However, the tanning process animal skins go through to become leather exists specifically to make the skin inorganic, so also unable to effectively and naturally biodegrade. The Global Fashion Agenda found that PU synthetic leather has less than half the environmental impact to produce than cow skin leather, due to the greenhouse gas emissions, water usage and other destructive impacts of animal farming and leather tanning.

As with any material or product, there are both higher and lower quality vegan leather materials. Faux leather was actually first used in car interiors, favoured by many because leather cracked under the sun if a high standard of maintenance wasn’t kept. Some vegan leather can peel, but high quality faux leather can last for years and years, just like animal skin leather. This is the case with our vegan bags, which are made from a sturdy PU leather.
